buy broccoli and eat lemon poppyseed cake

i’m trying to
avoid soybean oil.

various vegetable oils.

these oils are
ubiquitous,
in the food system
where i live.

it takes effort
to avoid them.

these oils are
linked to mood issues.

mood issues are
ubiquitous
amongst the populace,
in the area where i live.

the bread at the store
was at its “best by” date,
so the store marked it down 50%.

i wanted some bread

on which to melt cheese.

on which to slather peanut butter.

with which to saturate in olive oil.

i’m trying to
avoid soybean oil.

various vegetable oils.

i’m trying to
save money.

i’m trying to
placate my mood,
bring it to me by
a held hand.

i watched a short video
on the internet,
a net that is
ubiquitous
in snaring people,
in the area where i live.

in the video,
a small fish is
mostly motionless
near the floor of its watery home.

suddenly,
as if
out of
nowhere,
a much larger fish,
which had
hidden itself
in the soft floor,
erupted out,
inhaling
the smaller fish.

turning it
into
a quick meal.

as if
out of
nowhere.

a tiny crab, dead, exposes its pale white underbelly on the rocks of a low-tide beach.
