a thin tall pole —
like a tree
only
embarrassed,

boat, boat
is floating.
boat is not
sinking.

neither
alone
nor lonely.

a Steinway
on a simple stage.

we breathe in
belief.
we exhale
faith.

the first hour goes by
quickly.

we tap
on the glass.
we smile
when they serve us
our drinks.

if i get
ever from here,
i cannot imagine
coming back.

slight mountains
blend with milk
of sky.

the unfamiliar body
dazzles us.

a good morning
is nice
but it needn’t be
said to you
for it to
exist.

the kids are
still young
but they are
growing.

not built
to be
cynical,
no not built
to be
insecure.

the sun falls muted
and filled with blood
over Medford.

what it is is
a swinging.

for a few months
it’s warm enough to drive
your scooter
to work.

one way
is to develop
a skill
that is valuable
to other people.

there is no path
to god.

stains at the underarms.
the body sweats.

expose the midriff.

toss the stick into the stream.

the house is not
empty, it is
vacant.

spend the day
making labels.

the water is muddy
on account of
yesterday’s rain.

you’re not sure
if you have it
in you but
you try
anyway.

at first
you try to pick it up
but you cannot.
